2024 Luxury Electric Pickup Truck GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 Unveiled

Introduction

General Motors unveiled its next-generation electric pickup truck GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1. The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 electric truck will offer 643 kilometers of range, a reconfigurable mid-door, many onboard sockets, and a price of $108,695, with delivery in early 2024.

Exterior

GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 adopts a futuristic and technological appearance design language, and the visual experience is full of momentum. On the front face, the large-sized closed grille has the “GMC” logo badge in the center, which is highly recognizable when paired with L-shaped light groups on both sides and a wide front surround. In addition, the car also provides ample front trunk space, further enhancing its practicality.

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 joins the GMC lineup with a modern and futuristic twist. Featuring C-shaped LED daytime running lights with three horizontal LED charge indicators mounted below, a split headlight design mounted at knee height, and Chevrolet’s Avalanche-style C- pillar. The front end features an LED backlit surround, with backlit GMC logos front and center on Denali Edition 1 models.

The side shape of the new car is relatively tough, with a straight waistline, bright black wheel eyebrow components and large-size rims that are full of muscles. At the rear of the car, the taillights arranged longitudinally on both sides are highly recognizable. It is worth mentioning that the GMC Sierra EV rear cargo box can be connected to the rear of the vehicle and is equipped with multiple power interfaces to enhance its loading and practicality.

Interior

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 differs from current GMC and its Chevrolet counterparts, with its own dashboard and design. Sierra EV splits the Denali Edition 1 into an 11.0-inch gauge and a 16.8-inch portrait touchscreen, with a volume knob and seven buttons mounted below.

Denali Edition 1’s roof glass is infrared reflective and features a UV coating. The luxury Denali Edition 1 model will also feature quilted leather seats and, possibly for the first time, a wireless charger that enables inductive charging through standard open-pore wood trim.

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1’s 5-foot-11-inch trunk has an opening center door similar to the Chevrolet Avalanche. The 60-40 split center door allows the trunk to be expanded into a four-door cab with fold-down rear seats.

The cab’s rear window retracts into the center door, which creates an 11-foot-long trunk using the Denali Edition 1’s reconfigurable tailgate when the center door is open. With the tailgate raised and the mid gate folded, the Sierra EV can haul items up to 9 feet (2.74 m) long.

Power, EV Motor and Performance

In terms of power, the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is built on the Ultima platform and is equipped with a dual-motor four-drive system with a maximum output of 562 kilowatts. A peak torque of 1,063 Nm, and a towing capacity of 4.309 tons. The car is also equipped with a large-capacity battery pack and supports 350 kilowatt DC fast charging function, with a cruising range of 644 kilometers.

GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is also equipped with a four-wheel steering system, which reduces the turning radius of the vehicle while improving its dynamic handling performance. It can also achieve the same “CrabWalk” crab walking function as the Hummer EV. In addition, the new car is equipped with a suspension system with a height adjustable range of 51mm and offers five different drive modes to choose from.

Charging, Range and Battery Life

The 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be able to get 160 kilometers of range on a 10-minute fast charge on a 350-kilowatt charger. GM didn’t provide complete charging times, nor did it discuss how long it would take to charge on a 150-kilowatt charger or any other charging information.

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 GM’s Ultium electric platform with a 200-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and GMC estimates the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 can travel approximately 643 kilometers on a single charge. The dual-motor powertrain is more powerful than the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, offering 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, and will go from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

Overall, the 2024 Sierra EV electric pickup truck launched by GMC performs well in terms of performance and functionality and is a competitive electric pickup truck. However, it falls slightly short on towing and payload performance, which could be a major disadvantage when compared to the competition. However, considering that this car is GMC’s first electric pickup truck, its appearance undoubtedly marks a turning point for the high-end pickup brand, showing GMC’s determination and strength in the electric transformation.
