Overview

Acura started relatively late in the adoption of electric vehicles. Now the luxury automaker’s first all-electric car, the 2024 Acura ZDX EV, has debuted and is poised to become a direct competitor to BMW and Mercedes-Benz EVs thanks to head-on numbers and sleek looks that look pretty good so far.The base ZDX A-Spec shares GM’s Ultium platform with the Chevrolet Blazer EV, is powered by a 102.0 kWh battery pack, and is available in single or dual-motor configurations. The base model ZDX has 340 hp, and an estimated range of 325 miles (ca. 523 km) for the single-motor version and 315 miles (ca. 507 km) for the dual-motor configuration.

The ZDX’s DC fast charging rate is 190 kilowatts, which means up to 81 miles (ca. 130 km) of range can be restored in just 10 minutes. Acura promises to provide a comprehensive home charging solution, connecting ZDX owners with local after-sales service personnel through network technology. The top model in the range is the ZDX Type S, which boasts 500hp of dual-motor hardware and is billed as “the most powerful Acura SUV ever.” It uses the same 102.0 kWh battery pack as the base ZDX A-Spec, and even with that much power, the Type S still has an estimated range of only 288 miles (ca. 463 km).

The base price of the 2024 Acura ZDX A-Spec is approximately $60,000. The sporty Type S starts at about $70,000, compared to the MDX’s starting price of $51,045 (including destination), and the ZDX electric version is more expensive than the gas version. Production is expected to deliveries by the end of 2024.

Acura will offer the ZDX A-Spec in single-motor (rear-wheel drive) and dual-motor (all-wheel drive) configurations. The base single-motor rear-drive A-Spec has 340 horsepower, but the output of the all-wheel-drive version has not yet been released. The high-end ZDX Type S is equipped with specially tuned dual motors delivering 500 horsepower.

There are performance upgrades to the Type S, with the A-Spec using coil springs and the Type S getting an adjustable air suspension with adaptive dampers and airbags for an adjustable ride height. The A-Spec comes with 20-inch wheels, while the Type S comes with 22-inch wheels. The ZDX Type S even comes with high-performance summer tires on gloss black wheels, 15.6-inch Brembo brakes with bright yellow six-piston calipers.

In terms of appearance, the new 2024 Acura ZDX EV is not a replica of the fastback style of the 2010 fuel-powered version. It has a more traditional SUV shape on the body lines, a gloss black roof, and 20 (or 22-inch) wheels. Acura’s signature diamond pentagonal grille is covered with a 3D embossed diamond pattern, and the illuminated surround highlights the front end and is decorated with stylish Jewel Eye headlights on both sides of the grille to create a unique style.

Although the 2024 Acura ZDX EV is 197.7 inches long and 77.0 inches wide, only slightly smaller than the gas-powered MDX (198.4 inches long / 78.7 inches wide), its electric platform brings more design advantages, such as a significantly longer wheelbase. Longer, reaching 121.8 inches, far exceeding the MDX’s 113.8 inches. The extra-long platform means there is more space in the cabin, and the six-seat layout will be stress-free, and a seventh seat can even be considered. All ZDX models come with two rows of seating and space for five passengers. We can see from the photos that some parts are shared with GM cars, like the window switches and climate controls, but there’s enough Acura design language inside to distinguish the ZDX from the Lyriq.

The 2024 Acura ZDX EV is equipped with a 102.0 kWh battery pack that can achieve a peak charge rate of 190 kW using a DC fast charger, which can add approximately 81 kW to the single-motor A-Spec in approximately 10 minutes. miles of driving range.

Move up to Type S models and unlock the new Acura Watch 360+ hands-free driver assistance system. Similar to GM Super Cruise or Ford Blue Cruise, the Acura Watch 360+ allows for 400,000 miles of hands-free driving on compatible roads and comes with another first: an automated parking assistant.
