Honda recently released the 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV hydrogen-powered vehicle in the United States, with a cruising range of approximately 434.52 kilometers under EPA operating conditions. The new vehicle combines an all-new American-made fuel cell system with plug-in charging capabilities to provide approximately 29 kilometers of pure electric range in the city and the flexibility to quickly refuel on longer journeys.
It is reported that this vehicle is the first application of Honda’s second-generation fuel cell module, which has stronger durability, higher efficiency, more refined design and lower cost. In terms of appearance and interior, the new car remains the same as the previous model on sale, with only the front face redesigned. It is worth noting that because a large hydrogen storage tank is placed in the trunk, a large step is hidden in the entire trunk. Therefore, if the user has storage needs, some compromises need to be made.
The car will be equipped with the e-FUEL CELL fuel cell system jointly developed with General Motors and supports charging. Honda Motor believes that hydrogen fuel cell technology will play an important role in the future passenger car market after the era of battery electric vehicles fully begins. They believe that the fuel cell era may still take some time, and 2040 is more realistic than 2030.
Prices for the 2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell are expected to start around $60,000.
First, from the appearance design point of view, the 2025 Honda CR-V adopts a more fashionable and dynamic shape. The front face adopts Honda’s latest family-style design language. The large-sized air intake grille and sharp headlights are integrated to create a strong visual impact.
The body lines are smooth and powerful, showing the tough temperament of CR-V. The rear part of the car adopts a simple and elegant design style, echoing the front face, showing a coordinated and unified aesthetic.
In terms of interior, the 2025 Honda CR-V has undergone disruptive upgrades. The center console adopts a new design style, which is simple yet luxurious. The most eye-catching thing is the large vertical touch screen, which not only enhances the technological feel of the interior but also provides drivers with a more convenient operating experience.
The seats are made of exquisite materials and are comfortable and spacious, providing passengers with an excellent driving experience. In addition, the new car is also equipped with a number of intelligent configurations, such as voice recognition control system, automatic parking assistance, etc., making driving easier and more comfortable.
In terms of power, the 2025 Honda CR-V is equipped with a high-efficiency 2.0L hybrid system with a maximum output of 204 horsepower and an e-CVT transmission, making the driving process smoother.
This hybrid system can provide vehicles with better fuel economy and power performance. The new car is also equipped with a four-wheel-drive system, bringing drivers more stable handling performance and off-road capabilities.
The CR-V Fuel Cell’s hydrogen system is good for an estimated 241 miles of driving range, and the on-board 17.7-kWh battery pack is good for an additional 29 miles, according to the EPA. Refueling the hydrogen tanks takes just a few minutes, but recharging the battery pack for that extra reserve range will take two hours on a 240-volt connection.
Fortunately, you can tell the powertrain to charge the battery using power from the fuel cell while driving if you need to juice up your battery on the go.
The CR-V e:FCEV comes standard with a 9.0-inch touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. It operates on Honda’s newest infotainment system, known for its intuitive and user-friendly interface. It doesn’t include a tuning knob, but a volume knob with built-in navigation, as well as two USB-C ports for rear-seat passengers and wireless smartphone charging.
The 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV hydrogen-powered vehicle released by Honda has excellent cruising range and excellent durability, efficiency and other performance characteristics. Honda also stated that the car will join their global product line and plans to promote hydrogen fuel cell technology in the future.
