Polestar’s eye-catching Precept concept car has been given the green light for production, and will be called the 2024 Polestar 5 when it launches in 2024. This futuristic four-door hatchback will challenge the Porsche Tectonic, Tesla Model S, and more. Lucid Air, and Mercedes-Benz EQS. Details about the 2024 Polestar 5 remain scarce, but what’s certain is its formidable powertrain featuring dual electric motors capable of delivering up to 884 horsepower.
Coupled with an impressive driving range of around 300 miles, the Polestar 5 promises to be a compelling contender in the electric vehicle market, blending high performance with practicality for discerning drivers, and environmentally friendly interior materials. The company said it plans to build an entire manufacturing facility in China dedicated to the manufacture of Polyester 5 and intends to make the new plant carbon neutral.
Based on the stunning Precept concept, the 2024 Polestar 5 will be an all-new model for the new Polestar brand when it finally hits the market. Polestar didn’t give many details about the timing, but the company said it will feature a bonded-aluminum platform that maximizes lightness and rigidity. 2024 Polestar 5 are slated to launch in 2024
Prices for the 2024 Polestar 5 are expected to start around $100,000.
The prototype car unveiled this time is still in a camouflage state, but judging from the overall outline of the body, 2024 Polestar 5 still continues the overall design style of the Polestar Precept concept car.
We can also see some details of the new car, such as the split headlight set and the air inlet in the lower part of the front apron, which will be used to cool the power components. The multiple raised ribs on the front hatch enhance the car’s muscular feel.
The side of the car has a beautiful fastback line, and the taillight group at the rear of the car seems to be for testing purposes only. The Polestar R&D team stated that Polestar 5 has the excellent performance of a small-volume performance car and applies the latest forward-looking engineering technology, allowing lightweight and high-strength sports car chassis technology to be mass-produced.
In the interior part, there is no direct exposure, but it can be roughly seen from the car side pictures. A vertically suspended large-size LCD screen is erected on the center console, while a small-size LCD screen is retained behind the thick sports steering wheel. The screen, which is not as radical as the EX30, shows Volvo’s traditional side. In addition, it does not have too many complicated decorations. After all, it is a Volvo model and maintains the performance of the cold Nordic style.
As a symbol of sports models, the integrated sports seats will certainly not be absent. Even the second row seems to have an integrated wrapping structure, reflecting the characteristics of the model. Special perforated leather covers yellow seat belts and other elements, and also effectively stimulate the driver’s motor nerves.
In terms of power, foreign media said that the new car was not developed by Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg using the Volvo platform, nor was it developed in China on the CMA or PMA platform like the Polestar 2. But was developed by a British-based engineering team. The team has a background in Lotus and McLaren and emphasizes a more purely sporty attribute. It is no wonder that the new car looks different from the Swedish Volvo and the Chinese Volvo.
Officially, the car aims to achieve a maximum power of more than 880 horsepower, a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system with a maximum torque of more than 900 Nm, and supports an 800V electrified architecture. However, it does not use air suspension, but purely mechanical tuning. Pursue the purest driving pleasure. It is clearly benchmarked against models such as Porsche Taycan and Mercedes-Benz EQS. The new car will be officially launched in 2024. The official will further announce more information. It is worth looking forward to what kind of performance it can have in the future.
The 2024 Polestar 5 is expected to provide more than 300 miles of driving range per charge from its 103.0-kWh battery.
Also, the Model S and Air currently have models that exceed 400 miles of range, so the Polestar would be smarter to shoot for that bogey. All the latest charging methods are likely to be offered, including Level 2 home charging and DC fast charging for public stations.
The Polestar Precept concept car made its world premiere at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show. The 2024 Polestar 5 developed based on this concept car has also gone through years of development and is finally confirmed to be officially released in 2024. After it is launched, it will also compete head-on with Porsche Taycan.
