The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup is an electric supertruck from the brand. What makes a nearly five-ton EV pickup super? It has tons of hardcore hardware and up to 1000 horsepower. That output applies to a tri-motor all-wheel-drive configuration that also has a WTF mode – short for Watts to Freedom. The one we tested accelerated to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, which is extremely quick for something this size. Its longer emergency stopping distance was less impressive.
GMC claims a maximum driving range of 381 miles; The 570-hp dual-motor AWD model has an estimated 311-mile range. The range is slimmed down with the Extreme Off-Road Package which adds 35-inch mud-terrain tires, beefier axles and extra underbody armor. All Hummer EV pickups have a five-foot box, height-adjustable air suspension, rear-axle steering, and Super Cruise (GM’s hands-free driving technology). Although its interior doesn’t live up to its nearly six-figure price tag, there’s nothing like the 2024 Hummer EV pickup truck on the road or trail.
GMC is expected to introduce a more affordable version of the 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup sometime this year, which will probably still cost $85,000.
While we await details on that model, the top-spec EV3X is expected to have more range than previous model years thanks to a newly available 24-module battery pack. GMC claims the $9995 option extends the truck’s maximum range to 381 miles per charge.
Prices for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup start at $98,845 and go up to $106,945, depending on trim and options.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup 3X costs $8100 more than the EV2X, but we’ll spend that to make sure it impresses our friends with nearly double the horsepower as well as a Watts to Freedom launch-control mode that enables rocketship-like takeoffs. Is. The EPA estimates that the Tri-Motor model with the standard battery and 22-inch wheels has a 314-mile range, but a new optional extended-range battery unlocks an estimated 381 miles of range.
We’ll skip the Big Pack and opt for the Extreme Off-Road package instead. This reduces the range estimate to 298 miles, but adds bedlock-capable 35-inch mud-terrain tires, beefier axles, a locking differential, underbody armor, and more camera angles. To really enjoy your outdoor adventures, we’d also opt for the available removable roof panels.
2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickups currently offer two or three electric motors. Both configurations offered all-wheel drive; There is 570 hp in the dual-motor setup and 1000 hp in the tri-motor version. The Hummer EV Version 1 we tested had the latter, and it hit 60 mph in 3.3 seconds thanks to its Watts to Freedom (WTF) launch control driving mode.
This makes it one of the fastest pickups we’ve tested While we were impressed with its acceleration, we were disappointed with its braking performance. It took an additional 211 feet to slow the massive machine from 70 mph to a stop, and repeated runs caused brake fade. Whoah. Low-speed handling is better than expected, a direct result of the rear-wheel-steering system, but once you’re up and running, the Hummer EV is just as cumbersome to drive as other lifted Broadozers.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds, but it requires a 570-hp dual-motor powertrain. That beats the ratings of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T, which have towing ratings of up to 10,000 and 11,000 pounds, respectively. However, the three-motor Hummers have a towing capacity of between 7500 and 8500 pounds. During testing towing a 6100-pound double-axle camping trailer, our Hummer EV’s range dropped to just 140 miles at 70 mph.
2024 GMC, Hummer EV Pickups are available in two battery sizes. The standard 20-module pack offers an EPA-estimated driving range of 311 miles for the EV2X and 314 miles for the EV3X. The latter can be equipped with a 24-module battery that GMC claims offers up to 381 miles of range. Opting for the Extreme Off-Road Package drops an estimated 359 miles.
The Hummer EV Version 1 we tested on our 75 mph highway route traveled 290 miles on a full charge. It reached a peak charging rate of 287 kW when connected to a DC fast-charger, but it averaged just 98 kW, and it took more than two hours to charge its battery from 10 to 90 percent. GMC claims the2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup will add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes; We needed almost double the time.
A Hummer truck’s heavy weight is the enemy of efficiency. The 3-motor model has an EPA-rated 58 MPGe with standard 22-inch wheels. Compare that to the most powerful versions of the F-150 Lightning and R1T (both equipped with 22-inch wheels), which earn 66 and 68 MPGe, respectively. Visit the EPA’s website for more information on Hummer EV fuel economy.
While older Hummers were primarily SUVs, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup takes the form of a crew-cab pickup truck with a five-foot long bed. Interior materials can be high quality considering Hummer’s price, and the cabin isn’t as roomy as the GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab. But the interior can be opened to the elements via an optional removable roof panel that reintroduces the T-top-esque design popular on GM sports and muscle cars in the 1970s and 1980s.
When in place, the transparent panels are similar to a typical panoramic glass sunroof, but lifting them up and placing them in the Hummer’s front trunk gives the truck a Jeep Gladiator-like convertible feel. Inside, several moon-inspired touches — like moon-boot footprints on dead pedals and speaker grills that reflect the Sea of Tranquility — serve as not-so-subtle reminders of GM’s connection to NASA astronauts and the electrically powered Apollo 15. Lunar rover. don’t work The rover company assisted the engineer.
The large 13.4-inch display serves as the infotainment screen and there is also a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. GMC partnered with Epic Games, makers of the wildly popular Fortnite video game, to create graphics for the Hummer EV’s infotainment interface.
The high-resolution screen and advanced graphics look great, but we noticed some noticeable lag that suggests the system doesn’t have enough processing power to keep up with the software’s capabilities. Several connectivity features are standard, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot and GM’s OnStar telematics system.
